Euro MP and President of the International Social Tourism Organisation (OITS-ISTO)

A graduate in Spanish and English with postgraduate studies in Sustainable Development from the Free University of Brussels (ULB), Inés Ayala Sender has been a Euro MP for the Socialist Group in the European Parliament since 2004. With more than 15 years of experience working in European institutions, this is her third term at the European Parliament. She is spokesperson for the Socialist Group for the Committee on Budgetary Control and has been for the past 12 years. She is also member of the Transport and Tourism Committee since the start of her first term in 2004. During this time, her activity has focused on improving road safety, passenger rights and improvements to infrastructures. She has also worked in the Environmental Committee on matters of particular interest to Spain such as the Framework Directive on Water, the management of water resources and issues associated with the circular economy..


She is President of the International Social Tourism Organisation (OITS) originally known as the International Bureau of Social Tourism (BITS) in 1963. OITS is an international non-profit organisation, whose mission is to promote access to recreational activities, holidays and tourism for a greater number of people – youth, families, the elderly and people with disabilities. It also has the mandate to encourage solidarity and sustainable tourism providing benefits to the host communities while respecting their natural and cultural assets and heritage.
